Longer walks from Matiatia

A little more time on your hands

1. The walk along the northern headlands past Owhanake and Fossil Bay to Oneroa is quite wonderful, offering superlative views of the Hauraki Gulf. There are lovely little coves to find at Owhanake – ideal picnic stops on your way round the northern headland to Oneroa – 1.5 hours one way. Follow the Te Ara Hura markers northwards from Matiatia wharf.

2. You can continue beyond the southern headland walk to Church Bay, and on to Oneroa – 1.5 hours one way. Or a coast-hugging headland walk via Park Point to Oneroa – 2.5 hours one way. Follow the Te Ara Hura markers southwards from Matiatia Beach.
