Comings and goings

Now a busy commuter ferry terminal, Matiatia was for many years a quiet bay. At first home to a Māori kāinga (settlement), and then the home base for the large Alison farm, visited only occasionally by holiday yachting people.

Matiatia became the main ferry terminal for Waiheke, after Oneroa was subdivided in the 1920s, and the road to Oneroa was built.
