Harriet Tubman at Home

The Jackson County, NC NAACP Branch #54AB, in conjunction with the Town of Sylva, is proud to host Harriet Tubman “Journey to Freedom”. Our first stop of the tour, this traveling monumental sculpture by artist Wesley Wofford, was on public display at Bridge Park in downtown Sylva, NC from mid-September, 2021 to early-January 2022.

The nine-foot, 2,400 lb. bronze sculpture arrived on the morning of September 20, 2021. A formal dedication ceremony took place on Sunday, September 26, 2021, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Bridge Park, 76 Railroad Avenue, Sylva. A candlelight vigil, to bid farewell to Harriet Tubman, took place at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the same location. To learn more about this sculpture, please continue the tour.
