Did You Know?
Rising Times is an allegory for the passage of time; in other words – Mercer Island present, future and past. The architectural treatment of the gateway and its upward "eruption" symbolize the active and inevitable process of growth and change. Fragments of the past in the form of Native American artifacts are revealed as they were jewels waiting to be rediscovered. It is an invitation for the public to exercise its own curiosity and arrive at its own answer to to the question, "What happened here?"
