1923 - Come to the seaside! Oneroa subdivided

Matiatia Wharf built to acces the new village

Matiatia Wharf was built soon after Oneroa was subdivided into blocks for sale as seaside holiday properties, in 1923.

Before that, the main wharves on Waiheke island were at Ostend – where the famous graffiti message ‘All you need is love’ is now – and at Surfdale.
