When you just have to leave the island

Medical emergencies on Waiheke are attended to by the fast NZ Police boat Deodar, or the Westpac Rescue helicopter.

No Waiheke babies have yet been born on either conveyance – but there have been some very close calls!

In the 1940s, a baby boy was born on the ferry Ngoiro – and his parents named him after the boat.
