2015 - Lifestyle farming now

Unusual is the new normal

The lifestyle blocks surrounding Matiatia represent a new land-use, with limited similarities to traditional farming.

Some livestock is kept, such as horses and alpacas.

Many of the subdivisions have become boutique vineyards or olive groves. Some are part of Waiheke Island’s attraction as a place for weddings.

The spectacular house sites around the Matiatia headlands are now graced with striking examples of contemporary architecture.

But mostly, what were once paddocks are now reverting back to native forest.
